All Things NaNo

About NaNoWriMo

NaNoWriMo is an annual month of writing (hence the name, National Novel Writing Month, although now it’s international) during which over 100,000 people from all over the world sign up to write 50,000+ words of fiction starting at 12:00 am on November 1st and ending at 11:59 pm on November 31st. We do this for various reasons, among which are the motivation, the imposed deadline, the togetherness, and the reckless abandon with which we write. The “guidelines” include no editing, no backtracking, no use whatsoever of the Delete or Backspace key, and so on. They aren’t “rules,” but are there to make sure that you focus on getting that draft onto paper. Editing comes later, but you can’t very well edit a draft without having a draft to edit. For more information, check out the NaNoWriMo website.

So, I’ll keep it short. Basically I’m 19, I’ve been writing since I was 12, and I was serious about it almost from the start. I’m a little bit (a lot) of a grammar and spelling prude, but I won’t hit anyone over the head about it. I’ve been working on my first novel, Shard, since the beginning, and it seems to be morphing into a trilogy now. Eventually, it will be finished, I promise.

2009 was my first year doing NaNoWriMo and I got through with 50,045 words with the help of the forums, advice from veterans, and lots of coffee. I attempted NaNo in 2010 but failed completely due to traipsing around India all month long, but I’m not horribly upset about that. 2011 is another year :)

Good luck and feel free to add me on the site: africanstardust’s profile

More NaNo-related Things of Awesomeness

These are other pages I’ve got on the site that are mostly related to NaNo and other similar events, but that are also applicable to writing in general. Have at it.

First of all, it might be helpful to check out my NaNo 2009 posts since I did a fairly good job of posting regularly. This way you can get a good idea of what to expect. You can also check out all my NaNo 2010 posts, but there aren’t very many. Stay tuned for NaNo 2011.
